Cannabis located in shed fire at Risdon Park

Police have located cannabis plants following a fire at Risdon Park this afternoon.

Just before 1.15 pm, on Saturday 6 July, police and fire crews were called to Nelson Street after reports of a shed engulfed in flames.

MFS were quick to the scene and extinguished the blaze, but the shed was destroyed by fire. Thankfully no one was injured and nearby residents were advised to close their windows due to drifting smoke.

Upon further examination, a number of cannabis plants were located in two of the rooms being grown in a hydroponic set-up.

Following an investigation, a second property in Risdon Park was searched and cannabis plants in a hydroponic set-up were located.

A 58-year-old man from Risdon Park has been arrested and is expected to be charged with cultivate cannabis, divert electricity and possess prescribed equipment.

Fire Cause Investigators and Detectives are attending the scene to determine the cause of the fire.
