Drink driver detected at Yacka

A car has been impounded and suspected drugs have been seized after a traffic stop in the Mid North.

At 12.40pm Friday 7 June, Police were performing speed detection duties on the Horrocks Highway when they stopped a white Volkswagen Van for exceeding the speed limit by 16km/h and submitted the driver to a breath analysis. The driver, a 37-year-old man from Cudlee Creek recorded a positive result of 0.083. Police also conducted a drug test which returned a positive result for cannabis.

The man was reported for drink driving, he was issued a six-month instant loss of licence notification, and his car was impounded for 28 days.

A search of the vehicle located a quantity of white powder which was identified as belonging to the passenger, a 40-year-old man from Mallala. The powder was seized and will be forensically examined with possible controlled substance possession charges to be laid.
