Drug driving and speeding in Yorke Mid North

A man has had his car impounded after being caught speeding and drug driving in the states Yorke Mid North yesterday.

Just after 2.15pm, Tuesday 5 November, patrols were conducted speed detection duties on Augusta Highway at Warnerton when they detected a white van travelling at 120km/h in a 110km/h zone.

The vehicle was stopped and patrols spoke with the driver who was submitted to a drug test, returning a positive result for methamphetamine. A further search of the vehicle located drug paraphernalia and a small amount of methamphetamine.

Patrols also observed the front registration was obscured by a light-bar.

Checks on the 58-year-old driver from Davoren Park revealed he was unlicensed.

The driver was reported for driving without a licence, exceeding the speed limit and he was issued a 3-month loss of licence, and his vehicle was impounded for 28 days. His drug sample will be sent for further analysis.

He will be summonsed to appear in Port Pirie Magistrates Court at a later date.
