Drug search in Peterborough

A man has been arrested after an operation targeting drugs in the Yorke Peninsula.

On Friday 7 March as part of Operation Strike, an initiative aimed to disrupt drug activity in the Yorke Peninsula, police searched a house in Peterborough and located an active hydroponic setup for growing cannabis. A total of 16 cannabis plants, a large amount of harvested cannabis and cannabis seeds were seized.

While searching at the address police located a suspicious object that was believed to be an improvised explosive device.

Officers from the Bomb Response Unit attended the address and confirmed the device did contain explosive materials. The object was rendered safe and removed from the house.

On Sunday 9 March 2025, police arrested a 41-year-old Peterborough man. He was charged with numerous drug offences and manufacturing an explosive device.

He was refused bail and will appear in the Port Pirie Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
