House fire at Clare

Police are investigating a house fire at Clare overnight.

Emergency services responded to reports of a house fire in Gleeson Street, Clare about 12.30am on Wednesday 5 June.

One half of the duplex was completely engulfed, with the fire spreading to the adjoining premises.

The occupant of the unit where the fire started managed to evacuate safely, however, the 59-year-old man sustained injuries and was taken by ambulance to the local hospital.  His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.  The two occupants of the other unit also suffered smoke inhalation.

The fire was extinguished.  One unit was destroyed, and the adjoining premises sustained damage.

Fire cause investigators will attend the scene this morning.
