A man was issued with a fine by police conducting Operation Nomad patrols at Jamestown during yesterday's total fire ban.
About 3.40pm on Saturday 16 November, police spotted a man using a brush cutter to slash weeds on the side of the Wilkins Highway at Jamestown.
While he was permitted to carry out this activity on a fire ban day if appropriate precautions were taken, there was no shovel or rake and portable water spray at hand.
The 50-year-old Terowie man was issued with a fine for operating an internal combustion engine in the vicinity of flammable vegetation.
Local police and CFS are working together to monitor reckless or dangerous activity that might threaten community safety.
The public are urged to be vigilant to the danger posed by bushfires and to report any suspicious, risky or reckless activity in fire danger areas to the police assistance line at the time on 131 444 or Triple Zero in an emergency.
