A drink driver was detected at Port Pirie West overnight nearly five times the legal limit.

Police pulled a vehicle over on Swift Street, Port Pirie West about 1.30am on Sunday 17 November for a driver test.

The driver, a 53-year-old Port Pirie West man, recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.249.

It will be alleged the man hindered police when officers searched the man before he was placed in the police vehicle.

Police checks also revealed the man was already disqualified from driving.

He was arrested and charged with drink driving, drive disqualified and hinder police.  He was bailed to appear in the Port Pirie Magistrates Court on 16 December.

He was also issued with a further 12-month instant loss of licence and his car was impounded for 28 days.
