A man has been arrested for numerous driving offences after being spotted doing burnouts in North Moonta last week.
Just after midday on Friday 11 April, police responded to reports of a vehicle doing burnouts on Muddy Lane at North Moonta.
About half an hour later, police located the black Holden sedan at a car wash on Taylor Street, Kadina and attempted to stop it, however it failed to stop and drove dangerously at an excessive speed past two local schools.
The sedan was clocked travelling at 131km/h on Russell Street at Kadina, a 50km/h zone, and 171km/h on Mines Road at Boors Plain, a 100 km/h zone.
Police located the vehicle a short time later however the driver was not in the vehicle. Patrols spoke with the passenger who failed to truthfully answer questions, and he was arrested and charged with this offence.
Police located the driver and he submitted to a drug test where he provided a positive result for methamphetamine and cannabis. He was arrested and charged with a raft of driving offences including dangerous driving to cause a police pursuit, exceeding the speed limit, driving at a speed dangerous, driving whilst being disqualified and drug driving.
He was also issued a 12-month immediate loss of licence and his car was impounded for 28 days. He was refused police bail and will appear in court today (Monday 14 April).
