Police are investigating suspicious fires that have occurred in the Maitland area over the past two weeks.

About 8.30pm on Friday 22 November, emergency services were called to the golf course on Tiddy Avenue, Maitland Terrace and Elizabeth Street after reports of a grass fire.

The flames were extinguished soon after fire crews arrived.

About 10pm on Friday 29 November, another fire was deliberately lit in the grass near the dam on Maitland Terrace.

The flames were also extinguished with minimal damage caused by the grass fire.

As it is fire danger season these fire are raising significant concerns. With hot, dry conditions increasing the risk of rapid fire spread, police urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately via the Police Assistance Line on 131444, or 000 in an emergency.
