School work experience

About the program

Since 2007 the Band of the South Australian Police has hosted music students in years 10-12 from around the state who participate in a week-long work experience program.

Students have the opportunity to:

  • observe large and small ensembles of various musical styles
  • take part in five days of rehearsals with the Concert Band
  • participate in small group sectionals with mentorship by Band members on the same instrument
  • attend information sessions and workshops on all aspects of Band operations.

The work experience program is held at Thebarton Police Barracks, Band Room, located at the corner of Port Road and Gaol Road, Thebarton.

The program culminates in a concert primarily performed for family, friends, classroom and instrumental teachers, but is also open to the public.

At the end of the program students are provided with a recording of the concert, and have access to photographs and video of the concert and activities which they can use as part of their school portfolios and for assessment purposes. The program complies with Department of Education and Children's Services Workplace learning guidelines.

Last year's Work Experience Flyer provides an overview of the program.

NOTE: The work experience program for 2022 has been cancelled.
