Holiday and remote travel safety

Travelling through South Australia’s regional and remote areas is a rewarding and enjoyable experience.

Remote regions in particular can also be dangerous, with unsealed roads, unpredictable extremes of weather including life threatening heat and floods that can damage or wash away roads in minutes, reduced or no mobile phone coverage and limited vehicle traffic – which can mean no help if things do go wrong.

  • Do you know the most common reasons people need rescue or recovery?
  • Do you know what to do if you breakdown or get bogged in a remote area?
  • Do you know how much water you need to carry per person per day in extreme weather?

Knowing the answers to these questions and what you need to do before travelling into remote areas of South Australia may mean the difference between a travel adventure or a life-threatening emergency.
